Apple & Plum Jam

Jam is probably the best way of preserving the goodness of fruits and what better than a homemade jam, without preservatives. This homemade apple and plum jam is very easy to make and gets ready with few ingredients.

Apples and plums are high in pectin. Pectin is a naturally occurring carbohydrate in fruits that is concentrated in the fruit’s skin and the core. When cooked, pectin solidifies to a gel, causing fruit preserves to set. In a similar manner you can also make Apple Jam or Plum Jam.

We have prepared this jam in microwave. You may also check our Collection of Microwave Recipes

Ingredients (1 cup = 240 ml)

US Customary - Metric
  • 2 medium sized apples or about 1.5 cups chopped apples
  • 3 plums
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  • Wash, peel and chop apples. Wash and slice the plums to get rid of its seed.
  • Take chopped apples and plums along with sugar in a microwave safe bowl. Cover them and microwave for 10 minutes, until apples and plums are soft and sugar gets completely dissolved.
  • Take the mixture out and cool for a few minutes. Blend it to a pulp in a blender/mixer. You may either blend it completely or may also leave few chunks of apples & plums.
  • Transfer the pulp in the same microwave safe bowl. Cook for 5 minutes. You will notice that jam has thickened (no need to cover). Stir once in between.
  • Now add lemon juice and mix well. Again microwave for 5 minutes. There will be a frothy layer and colour of the jam would become much darker.
  • To check whether jam is ready or not, put about a teaspoon of jam in freezer section of the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes. It should turn out to be thick and consistency should like be of a jam. Spread it on a plate, if it is watery cook for few more minutes.
  • Allow the jam to cool completely.
  • Store it in a sterilized jar in refrigerator.
