Cabbage Paratha | how to make patta gobi paratha 

These are quick and healthy parathas that are perfect for breakfast, to pack for lunch box or to enjoy at dinner time with plain curd or raita.

We have cooked the cabbage onion mixture, seasoned it with basic spices before kneading it into a dough. By cooking the mixture, the raw smell of cabbage goes away. You can also use this mixture to make stuffed cabbage parathas. Here we have chosen an easy way to make these parathas.

Ingredients (1 cup = 240 ml) 

US Customary - Metric
  • ¾ cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon oil + ¼ teaspoon oil for kneading
  • salt to taste
  • water for kneading dough

For preparing cabbage stir fry:

  • ½ cup finely shredded cabbage
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds/jeera
  • pinch of hing/asafoetida
  • 1 small piece of green chilli
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder/haldi
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin seeds/jeera powder
  • ¼ teaspoon coriander/dhaniya powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garam masala
  • ¼ teaspoon amchur powder/dry mango powder
  • ½ teaspoon sesame seeds/til
  • salt to taste

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a non-stick pan and add cumin seeds.
  • Once it splutters, add green chilli, hing and shredded cabbage. Saute on a medium flame for 3-4 minutes.
  • Now add salt, turmeric powder and all the spice powders one by one - coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, amchur and saute for 3-4 minutes.
  • Remove from flame and keep aside.
  • In a wide bowl, combine whole wheat flour,oil and pinch of salt.
  • Add the prepared cabbage mixture and sesame seeds. Knead into a smooth dough adding water gradually. Cover and keep aside for 15-20 minutes.
  • Add about ¼ teaspoon oil and knead again.
  • Divide the dough into equal parts and make balls out of it.
  • Dust a little flour and roll in to make parathas. Roll out parathas of medium thickness.
  • Heat a tawa/non stick pan and place the paratha.
  • Cook the paratha using little oil till golden brown spots appears on both sides.
  • Repeat the same steps to make more parathas.
  • Serve hot with curd or chutney or pickle.
