
A simple, healthy and colourful sandwich, loaded with veggies.
This is a great option for kids lunch box as kids love colourful meals and maybe beetroot is not everyone’s favourite. So, you can get your kids to enjoy beetroot through this sandwich.
We have used brown bread in this recipe. You can use white bread or for a more healthier version you can use multi grain bread. Check our collection of Eggless Bread Recipes

Beetroot Masala Sandwich
A simple, healthy and colourful sandwich, loaded with veggies.

Ingredients (1 cup = 240 ml)
For the stuffing
- 1 teaspoon oil
- ½ teaspoon jeera/cumin seeds
- 1 green chilli finely chopped
- 1/2 beetroot grated
- 1 medium potato washed, boiled, peeled and mashed
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 1/3 cup mixed veggies we have used finely chopped capsicum, boiled peas and shredded cabbage
- ¼ teaspoon chaat masala
- ¼ teaspoon garam masala
- ½ teaspoon coriander powder/dhania powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin/jeera powder
- salt to taste
Other Ingredients
- 4 bread slices
- Tomato ketchup as required
- Butter as required
Instructions
For the stuffing
- Heat oil in a pan and add jeera.
- Once jeera splutters, add green chillies and onions. Sprinkle some salt to avoid onions getting burnt. Saute on a medium flame for 2-3 mins.
- Then add grated beetroot, capsicum, peas and cabbage and saute for another 2-3 mins.
- Now add mashed potato and all the dry spice powders (chaat masala, garam masala, coriander powder/dhania powder, cumin/jeera powder) and salt.
- Mix well. Remove from flame and keep aside to cool.
Preparing Sandwiches
- Apply butter and tomato ketchup on bread slices.
- Then arrange beetroot mixture over one bread slice and close the sandwich with the other slice of bread.
- Preheat non-stick tava / sandwich maker and grill the sandwiches using butter till both sides turn golden brown.
- Cut the sandwiches into half. Serve with tomato ketchup and ENJOYY…
Notes
You can use any veggies of your choice like corn, red and yellow bellpeppers, carrots...

Genuinely, this is amazing. So tasty, and healthy too! Often I don’t even have it with the butter, and it is simply delicious… also, we often don’t have chaat masala (unfortunately!), so I substitute some of its components instead.. jeera, hing, coriander powder!
I don’t think I can say more, easy to make, and a personal favourite (and I’m an elder teen!) who feels like a good, healthy sandwich to have after school! I like how the ingredients for us as an indian family are very easy include,, it doesn’t include something like saffron for example! Deserves every one of the 5 stars I give haha
Heads up- it’s not going to make your children who don’t like beetroot suddenly become No1 fans of it,, but it’s pretty darn good for all us others 😁😁
