Spinach Cheese Balls | palak cheese balls recipe

A great appetizer recipe to serve for your Dinner Party – Spinach Cheese Balls. This recipe requires a bit of pre-preparation. But once you are done with that, rest of the process is pretty quick. Pre-preparation involves steaming potatoes, making palak puree and cutting cheese into cubes. This dish not only tastes great but its green colour will surely attract everyone’s attention.


Some tips & variations:

  • Do not add water while blending spinach. If you require, just add a little water.
  • You can add more bread crumbs if your dough is sticky.
  • We have used amul processed cheese cubes and cut each cube into 4 pieces. You can even use mozzarella or any other cheese.
  • When you make balls, make sure there are no cracks in them. Otherwise they may break and cheese may burst out while frying.
  • We have prepared 12 balls. If you want you can reduce the size and serve each ball with a toothpick inserted on it.

Spinach Cheese Balls | palak cheese balls recipe

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Yield: 12 balls

Spinach Cheese Balls | palak cheese balls recipe

Ingredients (1 Cup = 200 ml)

  • 200 grams spinach (palak)
  • 2 medium sized potatoes, boiled, peeled and mashed
  • 1 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • ½ teaspoon dried mango powder / amchur
  • ¼ teaspoon chaat masala
  • ½ teaspoon garam masala
  • ½ teaspoon jeera/cumin seeds powder
  • ½ teaspoon dhaniya/coriander powder
  • salt to taste
  • 3 amul processed cheese cubes, cut into 4 pieces each (you can use any other cheese/brand)

Lets Begin...

    Blanching spinach leaves and making puree
  1. Soak Palak leaves in a bowl containing water and pinch of salt for about 5 minutes.
  2. Remove the stems from the leaves. Roughly chop the leaves.
  3. Add water in a wide pan and bring to a boil. Then add spinach leaves and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Immediately remove and soak the leaves in a bowl of ice cold water for 1 minute. Drain all the excess water.
  5. In a mixer/blender jar, add blanched palak leaves and blend till you get a smooth puree. Do not add water while blending. If you require, just add a little water. Keep the spinach puree aside.
  6. Preparing spinach cheese balls
  7. In a wide bowl, combine mashed potatoes, spinach puree, bread crumbs, salt, dhaniya+jeera powder, amchur powder, chaat masala and garam masala. Mix well and form a dough-like ball.
  8. Pinch a small portion from the dough and flatten it with fingers.
  9. Place cheese piece and seal the edges together and make a ball without any cracks.
  10. Deep fry on a medium flame till they turn crisp and light golden in colour.
  11. Serve these balls with tomato ketchup or chilli sauce. Enjoy.
