Double Decker Sandwich | Potato Masala Grilled Double Decker Sandwich
When it comes to sandwiches, the two most classic and all-time favourites are vegetable sandwich and potato masala sandwich. How about combining both of them and serving a double decker sandwich.
This sandwich has the crunch of tomato and carrot slices along with the soft and melt-in-mouth aloo stuffing, not to forget the spicy tangy green chutney. You can refer to our recipe for making Green Chutney for chaats and sandwiches.
Some tips & variations for making Double Decker Sandwich:
- For the vegetable sandwich layer, we have added tomato and carrot slices, you can also add cucumber slices, beetroot slices or any other veggie of your choice.
- If you want to avoid potatoes, you may substitute the with sweet potatoes or raw bananas.

Ingredients (1 cup = 240 ml)
For the potato stuffing
- 2 medium potatoes boiled, peeled and mashed
- ¼ cup boiled green peas
- 1 teaspoon oil
- ½ teaspoon cumin seeds/jeera
- pinch of asafoetida/hing
- 1 green chili cut into 2 pieces/finely chopped
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder/haldi
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder/dhania powder
- 1 teaspoon jeera/cumin powder
- ½ teaspoon amchur powder
- ½ teaspoon chaat masala
- small bunch of coriander leaves finely chopped
- salt to taste
For making Sandwich
- 6 bread slices 3 slices for each sandwich, makes 2 sandwich
- green chutney
- tomato slices
- carrot slices
- grated processed cheese
- butter
- chaat masala to sprinkle
Instructions
For the potato stuffing
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add cumin seeds.
- Once it splutters, add hing/asafoetida and green chilli. Then add boiled peas and mashed potatoes, turmeric powder, dhaniya powder, jeera powder, chaat masala, amchur and salt. Mix and saute for 3-4 minutes till everything gets blended well.
- Finally add chopped coriander leaves and mix. Stuffing is ready.
For making Sandwich
- Take 3 bread slices and apply butter on them. This step is optional.
- Apply green chutney on all the slices.
- On 1st slice, place tomato & carrot slices, grated cheese and sprinkle chaat masala. Cover this with another slice (the side on which we have applied chutney should be facing down). .
- Now place potato stuffing on the 3rd slice and place this on the sandwich with potato stuffing side facing down.
- Make another sandwich the same way.
- Apply butter on outer portion and grill the sandwiches in a griller/sandwich maker/tava.
- Cut into squares/triangle pieces and enjoy sandwiches with green chutney and tomato ketchup.
