All about Window Pane Test | How to do Window Pane Test when kneading bread dough
The window pane test is one of the most useful and best way to decide whether your dough is ready for proofing or still you need to knead the dough more for a few minutes.
Now if you are a beginner in bread baking, the first question that comes to your mind is :
How to know when the dough is ready for proofing?
This question is important because there can be problems if you under knead the dough or end up over kneading it. Bread dough should not be kneaded too much nor too less.
If you will knead the dough too much, it will result in bread that is baked dry, crumbly and dense. If you have not kneaded the dough properly (under kneading), it will result in a bread that lacks shape or it will have holes in the centre.
So, here comes the solution – Window Pane Test
How to do Window Pane Test
Knead the dough for atleast 10 minutes by hands. If you are using a stand mixer, check after 5 minutes of kneading in it.
Take a small portion of the dough and start stretching it with your fingers. You need to stretch till it becomes so thin that you can see the light through it and even your fingers. If the dough tears/breaks then you need to knead for a few more minutes.
