
Chocolate Gujiya | Chocolate Coconut Gujiya Recipe
Holi is almost here and we thought why not share a holi special recipe. Gujiyas are specially made during the festival of holi. This time we have made them with a small twist – these gujiyas are filled with chocolate – coconut – nuts filling.
Festivals are about making homemade sweets and snacks, get-togethers, colours and fun. Gujiyas and thandai are a must-have during holi and the festival would seem almost incomplete without these. This time surprise your friends and family members, with these chocolate gujiyas. We have prepared medium-sized gujiyas so that it is convenient to enjoy them without any hassle. If you want you can make them of regular size or can shape them even smaller.
Tips & Variations to make Chocolate Coconut Gujiya
- We have added almonds, cashews and raisins to the stuffing. You can vary the proportion of dry fruits as per your liking. You can even add chopped walnuts and pistachios.
- If you are a fan of chocolates then you can even dip these chocolate coconut gujiyas into melted chocolate and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes. Once chocolate is set, these will be ready to serve.

Ingredients (1 cup = 240 ml)
For the dough
- ½ cup maida/all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon ghee/clarified butter
- water for kneading dough
For the filling
- ½ teaspoon ghee
- ⅓ cup desiccated coconut
- 8-10 cashews roughly chopped
- 8-10 almonds roughly chopped
- 15 raisins
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
- ⅓ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
For the dough
- In a wide bowl, combine maida and ghee. Mix well and knead into a stiff dough adding water gradually. Dough should be smooth yet stiff, it should not be sticky.
- Cover and keep aside for 15-20 minutes.
For the filling
- Heat ghee in a non-stick pan on low flame. Add desiccated coconut and saute for 2 minutes.
- Now add chopped almonds and cashews. Also add raisins and powdered sugar.
- Mix and saute for about 1-2 minutes. Keep the flame low.
- Remove from flame and let the mixture cool down.
- In a microwave safe bowl, add chocolate chips and micro for 30 seconds. Remove from microwave and stir. Again micro for 30 seconds. Keep repeating till chocolate is completely melted.
- Add this melted chocolate to our prepared coconut mixture. Mix well and set it aside. Our stuffing is ready.
Preparing chocolate gujiyas
- Knead the dough once again and divide into small balls.
- Dust a little flour and roll out the dough in a small circle.
- Put the chocolate-coconut stuffing in the centre and apply water on the edges of the circle.
- Fold into half. This will now resemble half-moon shape or a semi-circle. Lightly press the edges with fingers and seal them with the help of a fork. Alternatively, you can also twist the edges and make pleats.
- Prepare all the gujiyas.
- Heat oil for frying gujiyas. Once oil is hot enough, immerse gujiyas in oil and fry on a medium flame. Take out on an absorbent paper.
- Enjoy these delicious Chocolate Gujiyas.
