Chocolate Gujiya | Chocolate Coconut Gujiya Recipe

Holi is almost here and we thought why not share a holi special recipe. Gujiyas are specially made during the festival of holi. This time we have made them with a small twist – these gujiyas are filled with chocolate – coconut – nuts filling.

Festivals are about making homemade sweets and snacks, get-togethers, colours and fun. Gujiyas and thandai are a must-have during holi and the festival would seem almost incomplete without these. This time surprise your friends and family members, with these chocolate gujiyas. We have prepared medium-sized gujiyas so that it is convenient to enjoy them without any hassle. If you want you can make them of regular size or can shape them even smaller.

Ingredients (1 cup = 240 ml)

For the dough

  • ½ cup maida/all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ghee/clarified butter
  • water for kneading dough

For the filling

  • ½ teaspoon ghee
  • ⅓ cup desiccated coconut
  • 8-10 cashews roughly chopped
  • 8-10 almonds roughly chopped
  • 15 raisins
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • ⅓ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

For the dough

  • In a wide bowl, combine maida and ghee. Mix well and knead into a stiff dough adding water gradually. Dough should be smooth yet stiff, it should not be sticky.
  • Cover and keep aside for 15-20 minutes.

For the filling

  • Heat ghee in a non-stick pan on low flame. Add desiccated coconut and saute for 2 minutes.
  • Now add chopped almonds and cashews. Also add raisins and powdered sugar.
  • Mix and saute for about 1-2 minutes. Keep the flame low.
  • Remove from flame and let the mixture cool down.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, add chocolate chips and micro for 30 seconds. Remove from microwave and stir. Again micro for 30 seconds. Keep repeating till chocolate is completely melted.
  • Add this melted chocolate to our prepared coconut mixture. Mix well and set it aside. Our stuffing is ready.

Preparing chocolate gujiyas

  • Knead the dough once again and divide into small balls.
  • Dust a little flour and roll out the dough in a small circle.
  • Put the chocolate-coconut stuffing in the centre and apply water on the edges of the circle.
  • Fold into half. This will now resemble half-moon shape or a semi-circle. Lightly press the edges with fingers and seal them with the help of a fork. Alternatively, you can also twist the edges and make pleats.
  • Prepare all the gujiyas.
  • Heat oil for frying gujiyas. Once oil is hot enough, immerse gujiyas in oil and fry on a medium flame. Take out on an absorbent paper.
  • Enjoy these delicious Chocolate Gujiyas.
