Spiced Buttermilk Popsicles | Masala Chaas Popsicles

Beat the heat in a desi way with these Masala Chaas Popsicles or Spiced Buttermilk Popsicles. Plain or salted chaas is something that is consumed in a Gujarati household with daily meals. Buttermilk has many variants. You can have plain chaas, sweet/salted chaas or masala chaas. But instead, try these spiced buttermilk popsicles once, and we are sure you’ll love them. These popsicles are a break from the routine sweet popsicles.

We have crushed the green chillies, mint leaves, coriander leaves and ginger and then added this mixture to the buttermilk. You can either crush them completely or leave the mixture coarsely done – if you like to have small bites of chillies and ginger while enjoying your popsicles. If you are making these for kids, then skip the green chillies.

Ingredients (1 cup = 240 ml)

US Customary - Metric
  • ½ cup dahi/curd
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ teaspoon roasted cumin seeds/jeera powder
  • ½ green chilli chopped
  • 1 tablespoon coriander leaves chopped
  • 4-5 mint leaves/pudina
  • small piece of ginger
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • In a mixer/blender jar, combine green chilli, mint leaves, coriander leaves, ginger and 1 tablespoon curd and blend to a smooth paste. You may also crush it coarsely if you like the bite or crunch of the chillies and ginger.
  • Take dahi/curd in a bowl and whisk well.
  • Add jeera powder and salt to it and mix.
  • Now add prepared coriander-chilli paste and water and whisk well with the help of a beater till frothy.
  • Pour the prepared mixture into moulds and refrigerate for 6-8 hours or till firm. Here we have used moulds with sticks attached to its covering. If you want to use wooden sticks, then pour the mixture into moulds or glasses or your desired vessel and freeze for 2 hours or till it becomes slightly firm. Then insert stick in the centre and freeze till firm.
  • To demould them, place them the moulds under running water or in a plate filled with water for 1-2 minutes.
  • Enjoy these chilled spicy buttermilk popsicles.

Notes

•You can adjust the spices as per your taste.
