How to store coconut for a long time

Coconut is used in various recipes and comes in multiple forms, including fresh coconut, coconut oil, coconut milk, dried coconut (kopra), coconut flour, etc. However, to reap the full benefits of coconut, it must be used regularly. This becomes more difficult because breaking the coconut every day is impossible. So here we are sharing an easy way to store coconut for a long time.

You can use coconut to make many recipes. Some of the fantastic coconut recipes on the blog are coconut ladoo, farali pattice, and chocolate coconut gujiya.

Health Benefits of Coconut

It is said that coconut is high in carbs, so people who are on a diet tend to avoid the consumption of coconut. But everything in moderation is good and looking at the health benefits coconut offers, one must surely consume it. Also, it depends on how you consume coconut. For example, coconut milk should be consumed fresh and not heated.

Coconut contains vitamin B6, iron, and minerals like magnesium, zinc, copper, manganese, and selenium. 

Coconut water is an excellent source of potassium, a mineral that helps balance sodium levels in the body. Plus it’s very hydrating, which is why it is always a first choice for recovering patients.

Coconut flour is also gaining popularity as it’s a gluten-free flour that can be used to make various recipes.

How to store coconut for a long time

Chop coconut into cubes—no need to chop them very small. You can even grate the coconut.

Put it in a large steel or glass container. Use any freezer-safe big-sized container. Cover with a lid.

Place it in the freezer section of the refrigerator. Use as required. Do not defrost the whole quantity. Take out as much quantity as required.

How to use frozen coconut

Take out the required quantity from the freezer in a bowl. Add hot water, cover and keep aside for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, drain the water and spread on a kitchen towel to dry. Use as required. You can also keep the coconut cubes at room temperature for 30-40 minutes.
